Kicking Off the Year the Cool Way at BMS!

Our 5th grade science students were hard at work designing water filters using everyday objects! 💧🔬 Each team created a unique filter and tested it on a different water sample, then reflected on how well their design worked.

Hands-on learning like this brings the scientific process to life—design, test, and reflect in action! Way to go, scientists! 👏 #WeAreBenton

Benton Middle School has its very own Crochet Club led by our art teacher, Mrs. Moore! đŸ§¶âœš Students are learning how to crochet and love sharing their creations and skills with one another.

Vivian and Angela teamed up to make a giant worm on a string, while Wilneshia showed off her magic circle technique to help others learn.

Thank you, Mrs. Moore, for organizing such a creative and welcoming club—our students are stitching together skills, creativity, and community! 💙 #WeAreBenton

Mrs. Heard’s GT students put their engineering skills to the test with a winter-themed STEAM challenge! 🧊 Using only marshmallows and toothpicks, students designed and built igloos with a strong base, a catenary shape, and a height of at least 4 inches.

Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader who inspired hope, courage, and positive change through his dream of equality and justice for all. His message continues to guide and uplift communities across our nation.

🌟 Reminder: There is NO SCHOOL today in observance of the holiday.

We encourage our Benton Middle School families to take this day to reflect, serve, learn, and honor Dr. King’s vision.

“The time is always right to do what is right.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Kicking Off the Year the Cool Way at BMS

In 7th grade social studies, students are learning about the failure of the Articles of Confederation—especially the chaos caused when each state had its own currency and no one could agree on its value. đŸ’žđŸ€Ż

To bring this concept to life, each group created their own money and then tried to buy and sell products at a farmer’s market. Students experienced firsthand just how confusing and chaotic trade becomes without a common currency or a reliable way to determine equivalent value.

Hands-on history like this makes the past come alive—and helps students truly understand why change was needed! #WeAreBenton
