Mrs. Glidewellâs 6th grade math classes worked together during a card sort activity from the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum. Students collaborated in small groups to match ratio diagrams with the correct ratio sentences, explaining their thinking and checking their matches with teammates.
Activities like this give students the opportunity to strengthen their understanding of ratios while also building communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Great learning happens when students think, talk, and work together!

Mrs. Simpsonâs 5th grade scientists are putting their reading and evidence skills to work! Students partnered up to read about our feathered friends, exploring their habitats, what they eat, and how the food they consume provides the energy they need to survive. đŠđŠ
As they read, students worked together to find evidence, discuss their thinking, and support their ideas with information from the text.
And this reading is more than just practice⊠đ Itâs giving our scientists a hint about an exciting lab coming NEXT WEEK! đŠđ„Œ

This past week, Mrs. Stellâs 5th-grade scientists turned into ecosystem detectives! đ±đ”ïž
After noticing that their classroom nurse logs were "disappearing," they had to figure out exactly where that matter was going! To solve the mystery, students investigated 10 weeks of real scientific data from a termite colony living inside a closed system nurse log. By analyzing the data, our students tracked exactly how matter moves through an ecosystemâtracing it from the log, to the termite queen and workers, and even into their waste!
We love seeing our students use real data to think like true ecologists. đđ
