This past week, Mrs. Stell’s 5th-grade scientists turned into ecosystem detectives! đŸŒ±đŸ•”ïž

After noticing that their classroom nurse logs were "disappearing," they had to figure out exactly where that matter was going! To solve the mystery, students investigated 10 weeks of real scientific data from a termite colony living inside a closed system nurse log. By analyzing the data, our students tracked exactly how matter moves through an ecosystem—tracing it from the log, to the termite queen and workers, and even into their waste!

We love seeing our students use real data to think like true ecologists. 📊🌎

Learning Ratios Through Collaboration:

Mrs. Glidewell’s 6th grade math classes worked together during a card sort activity from the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum. Students collaborated in small groups to match ratio diagrams with the correct ratio sentences, explaining their thinking and checking their matches with teammates.

Activities like this give students the opportunity to strengthen their understanding of ratios while also building communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Great learning happens when students think, talk, and work together!

Volume & Fun Friday with "The Farmer Dilemma" (Building a Thinking Classroom)

📚✹ Fun Friday in Math! ✹📚

In Mrs. Brimhall's class students wrapped up their week with some hands-on volume practice while putting the principles of Building a Thinking Classroom (BTC) into action!

Students worked collaboratively, shared their thinking, tried different strategies, and learned from one another as they tackled volume challenges. Watching their conversations and problem-solving skills grow was so much fun!

And of course, they had to make it a Fun Friday with "The Farmers Dilemma"! Students were engaged, collaborating, and—most importantly—thinking!
