Attention: Private School and Home School Representatives
January 4, 2024 (Benton, AR) --- Benton Public Schools is offering ongoing consultation with representatives of private and home school students. The meetings will allow private and home school representatives to share the needs of students with disabilities enrolled in their programs. Evaluation and service specifics for parentally placed and home-schooled children in the 2023-2024 school year will be shared with providers.
Benton’s Special Education Director, Angela McWhorter (or her designee), will address the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA 2004). Areas of discussion will include:
The Child Find Process
Determination of which, how, where, and by whom special education and related services will be provided
How the services will be evaluated,
Determination of the proportionate amount of Federal Funds available to serve parentally-placed private school and home-school children with disabilities
How the consultation process among representatives will take place, and
The process in the event of a disagreement between the LEA and private/home school representatives.
The Follow-Up Consultation meeting will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 9:00 AM at the Benton School District Administration building at 207 W. Conway, Benton, AR, 72015.
